LAST STOP THREADS

Business Owner

Lisa Frank, Barbie, 90’s – 2000’s Disney Channel, Y2K reality television, magazines, MySpace and music from the 2000’s raised me. Before becoming a small business owner, I worked as a graphic designer where I was able to develop skills I use today in creating online.

Tell us a bit about you

Greetings from small town West Virginia! My name is Taylor and I love everything about the 2000’s and pop culture.

How did your shop come to be?

In 2012, I was looking to make extra money outside of my 9-5 job. The TV show American Pickers was popular and the idea of reselling seemed interesting. I had thrifted a vintage Mickey Mouse hat and decided to start an eBay account to see if I could sell that hat online. It sold and from that moment on, I wanted to see what else I could thrift and flip for a profit.

Favorite things to collect?

All things Betty Boop and Barbie!

What sort of things do you sell?

Vintage clothing, media and merchandise from the 2000’s and anything related to pop culture.

What things sell the best?

Nostalgia items. People seem to really like the things they remember having growing up. I think it brings back good memories from their past and I love helping others reminisce on forgotten memories.

What nostalgic memories keep you inspired?

The fashion of the 2000’s is something I have always enjoyed – the show Project Runway played a big part in that. Along with the artistic style and colors of Lisa Frank… those two vibes together are what has inspired a lot of my creativity when it comes to my shop.

Britney or Christina?

Britney! I got my very first CD player in the year 2000 when I was 10 years old and the first CD I remember playing on it was Oops! I did it again. Been a dedicated fan ever since.

BSB OR NSYNC?

NSYNC! The song Bye Bye Bye came out when I was in elementary school, right around the time I had gotten my first CD player – NSYNC and Britney Spears came hand in hand back then.

Arthur or Magic School Bus?

Arthur is a classic but the overall vibe Magic School Bus had was much cooler to me. The TV show and books, made learning about science interesting.

What does a day in the life look like for you?

As of 2015, I am a full time reseller. I run an online selling account as well as a booth space. I source for items on the weekends and list online during the week. I make time throughout the week to tag items for the booth and restock once a week.

An album that inspired you growing up

Kelly Clarkson’s song Breakaway inspired me. In the song she mentions growing up in a small town and wanting to belong… I always felt like an outsider in my town, where the fashion and pop culture world weren’t talked about. In the song she says ‘I’ll spread my wings and I’ll learn how to fly – make a wish, take a chance, make a change and breakaway’ – at my high school, I was told no when I asked if I could have a fashion show in the school’s talent show… and honestly that gave me the motivation to take a chance and ‘breakaway’ and do my own thing.

At a childhood sleepover you were definitely watching this movie …

Mary Kate and Ashley – Our Lips are Sealed or New York Minute And the Lizzie McGuire movie was an easy go to movie!

Fav toy growing up?

Barbie miniature food! I loved the little details and how interactive it was. The pies would open so you could add apples, you could put tomatoes or pickles on your burger, crack the eggs… loved being able to use my imagination with my Barbie dolls and their kitchens.

Barbies or polly pocket?

Polly Pocket has a special place in my heart but Barbie has stuck with me. Polly Pocket was fun to collect and play with – especially Polly’s Dreamworld but I loved being able to change up Barbie’s outfits.

3 songs that would describe you best

Britney Spears – Lucky

The Pussycat Dolls – When I Grow Up

Cinderella – A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes

Fav Disney channel movie?

High School Musical – I wanted Sharpay’s wardrobe and a love story like Gabriella’s.

A phrase you would leave for a nostalchick

“Have faith in your dreams and someday your rainbow will come smiling through.” – Cinderella
