THE JOLLYSTOP
My name is Lula. I am an artist based in Los Angeles. I am the creator of The JollyStop.

Tell us a bit about you
Hi! I’m Lula. I’m originally from Boston and now live in LA. I create a lot of different forms of art including music, but have been focusing on my nostalgic cone business lately!
Tell us about your shop
The JollyStop creates handmade faux ice cream clown cone figures that will never melt on you. I also make kitty cones!
What inspired you to create the cone sculptures?
I’ve always been particularly dazzled by the appearance of clown cones or ‘coneheads’ as they’re sometimes called! Part of my inspiration was growing up on the east coast where there are Friendly’s restaurants. I’d always order the Monster Mash sundae there. A classic conehead! I’ve been pretty avoidant of eating ice cream because it gives me a stomachache now that I’m older, but I still adore the look of them. I wanted to make one that I didn’t have to eat, but would still make me (and hopefully others) smile!
Did you love going to friendlys as a kid?
YES
Fav friendlys ice cream order?
Monster Mash
What do you miss most about childhood?
I miss going on little road trips with my dad on the weekends to retro arcades like one called Bonkers in the north shore in MA. I also miss trips to Cape Cod where I’d stop at Friendly’s with my mom. I also miss eating ice cream! haha
What nostalgic foods do you think of most?
There’s this one cereal I will never forget and I have no idea why they discontinued it because it was essentially just broken rice krispies treats and superior to all the other Rice Krispy cereal variations in my opinion. I also think about fun shaped mac and cheese like the Spongebob version. Why did it taste so much better than the regular shaped kind
What would a jolly stop room look like?
Ooh I would love a Jolly Stop room! Lots of pastels but also primary colors. As many retro ice cream and cute clown objects I could find. I’d also have to have a retro confetti patterned rug like the ones from a mall arcade or movie theater. Maybe some old Dairy Queen posters.
If you could pick any nostalgic song for a theme song for your shop what would it be?
Shake It Up by Lula Sphinx ! I had to say it, but actually probably Sunday Girl by Blondie.
You’ve done a ton of cool photoshoots that are really nostalgic – tell us about them!
Lately I have been shooting with @cosmic.romantics. She has an incredible eye and brilliant vintage style. In all my photos where my hair looks styled it is by the amazing @silverscreenvanity! Other photoshoots like at the Toys R Us set are just me having a vision for an outfit with a location I found and having my boyfriend use his iphone camera.
Favorite shops to shop for clothes?
I mainly scour Etsy, Depop, and ebay for all of my clothes, otherwise I go to vintage shops in real life. My favorite vintage store as of late is Catnip Coalition in Burbank where they have a medley of vintage booths as well as kitties for adoption. I actually have a booth there with JollyStop stuff.
Who are your throwback style icons?
Debbie Harry is forever my ultimate muse. I also love Marilyn Monroe, Diana Ross, Lady Miss Kier, Gwen Stefani, Madonna, and Grace Jones!
Favorite content to create?
Nostalgic interior reels
Favorite content to consume?
Anything creative and nostalgic!
Toys R Us or KB Toys?
I like the vibe of Toys R Us more but I feel like I went to KB Toys more often.
Barbies or Furbys?
I had both but I think I like Furbys more now. I also had those weird Wub Luv furby-like toys where it would give birth. Anyone remember those?!
A phrase you would leave for a nostalchick
You are the Nostalgia Queen!!
