CLASSIC AMERICAN GIRL DOLLS

May 14, 2024

The classic American girl dolls we grew up with

For those of us who had the honor of growing up with the original American Girl Dolls, we know these weren’t just toys – they were the start of a passion for imaginative play, learning and of course collecting.

Each doll came with her own backstory, book series and meticulously crafted accessories that were just begging to be added to our Birthday and Christmas lists.

Why do we still hold these dolls so dear? It’s simple: they were our first foray into history, storytelling and understanding the world through someone else’s shoes. Each doll was a friend, a teacher and a gateway to countless hours of imaginative play.

They taught us empathy, resilience and the importance of every girl’s story.

A Shoutout to Kit: The 2000s Icon

Let’s not forget Kit Kittredge, the Depression-era darling who joined the American Girl family in 2000. Kit was all about resourcefulness and optimism, qualities that resonated with many of us during those turn-of-the-century years. With her short blonde bob and tomboyish style, she stood out from the crowd, proving that girls could be both brave and compassionate. And let’s be honest, her treehouse and typewriter were the envy of all.
