I’m a 90s baby who loves to read, run and go to theme parks! As soon as I could do it on my own, I was a voracious reader. I always felt like Matilda and I would have been besties. The earliest books I fell in love with were— The Magic Treehouse and Junie B. Jones series and later The Princess Diaries and Harry Potter! Now you can find me reading almost anything I can get my hands (or ears!) on. I combine my mutual love for reading and running by listening to audiobooks during my runs! When I’m not doing those two things, you can find me hanging out at Disney World or Universal Studios since I’m lucky enough to be an Orlando local. ’m 33 and live with my partner and son. I’m currently a caregiver, freelance photographer and content creator.
What is it about reading for you?
I love that reading can be anything you need it to be! It can be an escape from reality, a vessel to learn more about yourself, others and the world, or just an enjoyable way to spend your time.
What is it about nostalgia for you?
I think it’s comforting and brings joy to revisit a time when things were more simple and slower in contrast to our fast paced, stressful adult lives. I also like that it’s a way to connected to others from our generation through mutually shared experiences.
Name one of your most nostalgic memories …
Going to the midnight release parties for Harry Potter.
Favorite throwback styles?
90s baggy jeans/clothes, and I’m so glad they’re back!
A style you hope never comes back …
Low rise, the multiple layers tanks and the giant belts overtop it all.
Favorite throwback movie?
10 Things I Hate About You
How many books do you think you’ve actually read?
This is hard… my Goodreads is currently at 420 read books but I know I’m missing a lot from when I was younger. So I’d say over 500!
What are you most excited for with the book club?
To get to chat with others about the books.
A disney channel song you think would best describe your life
This doesn’t describe my life, but I’ve always loved the song ‘Ultimate’ from Freaky Friday.

What are some of your hobbies?
My hobbies range from experimenting with different makeup looks, all the way to crafting and theme park hopping! Catch me snacking my way through the parks or looking for inspiration on Pinterest for my next project.
You have an old soul – what are some classic nostalgic things you love?
Fashion! Nothing connects me more to a specific era like fashion does. I love Y2K trends!!! The bedazzled jeans, phone cases, sunglasses. Everything was so sparkly back then. BRING IT BACK!
Why do you love to craft and to create?
Crafting is such a creative outlet. I’m able to decompress and untangle the mess that’s in my brain when I sit down to work on a creative project that brings me joy. As well, it gives me a sense of accomplishment when I see my vision come to life.
Tell us why you love strawberry shortcake so much.
Strawberry Shortcake girly here🫡 She is such a large part of my childhood. I am the crafty, outgoing and bubbly person that I am because of her. Growing watching this cutie have a large group of friends with great sense of fashion really set the standard for my life, and now I’m a girl’s girl with amazing friends with even more AMAZING styles and personalities.

If you got to be in charge of a Libby Lu store current day … would activity would we be doing?
This one hits deep😭 As a child I never had the opportunity to go to a Libby Lu, just sat there watching from the outside. I honestly wouldn’t change a thing! I want the potion station, the catwalk, the vanities, the merch… I WANT IT ALL!

Hey everyone! I’m Shelly Ray, a 28-year-old Virgo soaking up the sunny vibes of South Georgia. Advertising is my passion, and I’ve been living out my creative dreams as a content creator on TikTok and YouTube. You can find me spreading gel pen coded history lessons over at “Glitter Pen Perspective.” During the day, I’m all about work as a social media manager for a local boutique; while hustling away at an internship on the side. Oh, and did I mention? I’m happily engaged to my high school sweetheart. When I’m not diving into marketing strategies or scrolling through TikTok trends, you’ll catch me hitting the beach, cruising around on roller skates, or hunting down thrift store treasures. Sunsets, picnics, and a good game of Animal Crossing are my go-to chill-out activities. And let’s not forget my undying love for caffeine – it’s my trusty sidekick through it all!
HI! Tell us a little about you.
Hey there! I’m Shelly Ray, a marketing grad and content creator based in The Peach State. When I’m not scouring thrift stores for the perfect retro outfit or indulging in a 2000s movie marathon, you can catch me gliding around on roller skates, soaking up the sun.
Why the name GPP?
“Glitter Pen Perspective” is my homage to the colorful world of 2000s junior high. Think Lisa Frank binders and Tiger Beat Magazine Posters hung inside a locker door—the epitome of Disney Channel Sitcom nostalgia. But it’s not just about reliving memories; it’s about exploring the golden age of tween marketing. Through my videos, I delve into the history of brands from that era, uncovering the strategies that made them iconic.
What celebrity do you feel has inspired you the most?
Hilary Duff has always been my go-to gal. I mean, who didn’t grow up obsessed with Lizzie McGuire, right? From her iconic role on-screen to her journey as a pop star, she’s been a constant source of inspiration for me. I collected all her CDs and DVDs, totally living for Metamorphosis and A Cinderella Story. What sets her apart? She’s got this incredible knack for going after her dreams with unstoppable determination. With her killer career and her family by her side, she’s the epitome of living life to the fullest!
What is the most nostalgic memory you had as a kid?
One of my most nostalgic childhood memories is my first visit to Limited Too. Growing up in a small town with limited shopping options, I wasn’t particularly interested in fashion until I hit fourth grade. That’s when my mom, a self-professed shopaholic, took us on a back-to-school shopping spree in a bigger city with a huge mall. Walking into Limited Too felt like stepping into London Tipton’s closet. The vibrant store, the radio Disney music blasting, the sequin-covered jeans, the shimmery headbands, and the body glitter that was strategically sold right next to the checkout counter—was pure aesthetic heaven for a soon-to-be ten-year-old like me. That experience left such a lasting impression on me, influencing even my online presence to this day.
Why do you feel like you love nostalgia so much?
I believe my nostalgia obsession stems from being an old soul at heart. From a young age, I found myself fascinated by the idea of living in my parents’ or grandparents’ generation. As I grew older, my interest in pop culture blossomed, fueled by VH1 documentaries that delved into different decades. Even when I was sick from school, I watched countdowns like ‘100 Most Shocking Moments in Rock And Roll’ or ‘I Love the 80s and 90s,’ finding more enjoyment in them than in any class. This fascination with the past only deepened as I pursued a major in marketing during college, leading me to ponder over the aesthetics and selling points of my childhood favorites, ultimately shaping my love of nostalgia.
If GPP had an album, what would the name be?
Passing Notes
Top 3 songs that would be on your playlist?
Gee – Girls Generation
Us Against The World – Play
Anywhere But Here – Hilary Duff
Marykate or Ashley?
It’s funny. If you had asked me this when I was younger, I was a full-on Ashley girl. She was the “girly” twin—always wearing pink and dancing ballet. Now that I’m older, Mary-Kate is my bias—caffeinated and the shabbiest of chic. Her New York University boho outfits from the late 2000s are still on the mood board.
Why are you excited to share a monthly playlist?
I’m excited to share a monthly playlist because music holds a special place in my heart. It’s my favorite way to instantly evoke nostalgia. A single song has the power to transport you back to a specific memory, whether it’s your first school dance, a fun sleepover, or cruising around town with friends. Personally, I’ve always been a music junky, embracing niche genres spanning from the CD, Mp3, and now the current streaming era. I can’t wait to unlock memories for you through the power of playlists.
A nostalgic beauty product you miss most?
Vera Wang Princess Perfume
A phrase you would leave for a nostalchick.
